2020 TEACHING SKILLS

Voice, Application, Graduation

The second 100 hours utilizes the foundation of the previous hours and applies what was experienced and learned. It is said the way to master a concept is to teach someone.

  • The Ethics of Teaching Yoga

  • Asana Index Study and Practice

  • Introduction to sequencing

  • Structure and Preparation of a class

  • Exploring language and demonstrations for clarity and purpose

  • Practice teaching in a safe environment working within a group and individually

  • Basic hands-on Adjustments

  • Introduction to Assisting a Teacher

  • Introduction to Teaching Meditation techniques

  • Introduction to Pre-Natal Yoga

  • Practice, Practice, Practice and more

Weekend Schedule

Saturdays

Class: 7:30 - 9:00 am

Lecture: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Practice/Lecture: 1:30 - 5:30 pm
 

Sundays

Class: 10:00 -11:30 am

Lecture/Practice: 12:00 - 5:00 pm

Certification Requirements

  • All homework assignments, quizzes, readings, group teaching assignments and practice classes completed

  • All contact hours with Kimberly Brown completed

 

Our school is proud of our heritage and lineage with teachings from Anusara, Iyengar, and Vinyasa backgrounds steeped in both Classical and Tantric Yoga Philosophies. We are gladly registered with Yoga Alliance. A graduate certificate from our school allows you to register with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200 hour level.

The Sama 200 Hour Level 1 Yoga Curriculum Includes:

First Half - Yoga Studies - focuses on:

  • Study of asana (postures)

  • Physical alignment

  • Asana Practice (standing, sitting, twisting, inverting, backbends, hand-balances, supine, restorative)

  • Fundamentals of the yoga practice

  • Anatomy (Structural and Functional Anatomy)

  • Personal growth and introspection

  • Introduction to Ayurveda - the sister-science of Yoga

  • Introduction to Pranayama (breathing exercises)

  • Introduction to Sanskrit

  • Introduction to Classical and Tantric Yoga Philosophies

  • Informed use of props to enhance or modify a posture

  • Introduction to Mythology, Cosmology, and History

Second Half - Teaching Skills - focuses on:

  • Structure and Preparation of a class

  • Exploring language and demonstrations for clarity and purpose

  • Practice teaching in a safe environment 

  • Basic hands-on Adjustments

  • Introduction to Assisting a Teacher

  • Introduction to sequencing

  • Asana Index Study and Practice

  • The Ethics of Teaching Yoga

  • Introduction to Teaching Meditation techniques

  • Introduction to Pre-Natal Yoga
